Domain Hijacking
The process of taking over a domain's control or ownership illegally. A domain owner literally wakes up one day and finds out that his site is no longer working and is now officially registered to the hijacker. Most hijacks occur with the domain transfer process, where the perpetrators find a registrar with a weak security system and exploit it. Many domain hijackers wait until a domain with traffic becomes available because the rightful owner forgets to renew the domain; porn operators are well known to use this technique.
